We are fortunate to have located a
small parcel of rough tenebrescent Zircon. This rough was reportedly
originally purchased more than 10 years ago. The source of this material
was at that time, and remains now, unknown.
We are cutting this Zircon for clarity and
brilliance. As a result, most of the gems being produced
weigh under 1 carat.

In normal conditions, these untreated
Zircons range in color from
light brown to orangish-brown to reddish-brown.
If kept in darkness for several days,
the color will change to a striking vibrant orange or
orange-red. On exposure to any light, the color fades back
to brown in a matter of only minutes.
Low heat from a candle flame will also cause the color to turn orange, and as the
stone cools, the original brown tone returns. The orange
color will remain, however, if the heated stone is allowed to
cool in total darkness.
