Showing flashy green and gold
Anthophyllite needles on a black opaque background, the
metamorphic rock Nuumite was only known to occur in Greenland.
Recently, however, a discovery of this unusual rock was made in
the Sahara Desert of Mauritania.
Unlike the original Greenland rocks,
the new 'Sahara Nuumite' often has a high density of needles,
some of which can show a quite attractive blue color. So
unusual, we had these rocks tested a several laboratories,
including the GIA Lab in Bangkok, to confirm that the flashy
needles are in fact the amphibole Anthophyllite, the main
component of Nuumite.
The stones are taking a good polish,
but are a challenge for us to cut. The colorful needles
occur in very thin planes in the rough, making yields low. The
best stones, however, are really impressive, and as we introduce the top
pieces from our production, we hope our customers will enjoy
adding these stones to their collections, or using them in their
jewelry creations.
