Bekily, in the far south of Madagascar,
is known for the unique 'Alexandrite-type' Color-Change Garnet
mined
there since the 1990's.
Also found there, however, are a wide range of
other colorful 'Malaya' Garnets.
Bekily
Malaya Garnets are a blend of Pyrope,
Spessartite, Almandite, and Grossular in varying percentages.
Traces of Chromium and Vanadium cause unique and vivid tones,
while also leading to subtle color-shifts and
dramatic color-changes in some Bekily Garnets.
"Pink to Pinkish Orange Malaya Garnet from Bekily, Madagascar"
We always
try to keep a good inventory in Blue Color-Changes Garnets.
It is fortunate, however, that we also a great connection for other Garnet rough from Bekily and
vicinity.

This
trillion is one of a few exciting unusual stones in our last parcel
of rough from Bekily. The color is best described as
golden-orange, similar to, but definitely different than common
Spessartite. There is a very weak shift in color towards
pink in some lights.
We are
really impressed with the tone and brilliance of this large trillion.
Those with experience with Garnets will see that while there is
obviously plenty of Spessartite in the stone, the other
components and trace elements have added something extra and
special.
We
only have a few stones in this color, and this trillion is among
the best. |
