Bekily, in the far south of Madagascar, has been known for the 'Alexandrite-type' Color-Change Garnet found there since the 1990's. Also found there, although more uncommon, is beautiful "Imperial"
Malaya Garnet.
This Garnet is unique in the world, and different than the 'traditional'
Malaya Garnet found in Umba, Tanzania. GIA wrote a detailed article about this particular stone in the Winter 2001 issue. Bekily
Malaya Garnet is a blend, predominantly Pyrope, but also containing Spessartite, Almandite, and Grossular.
"Pink to Pinkish Orange Malaya Garnet from Bekily, Madagascar"
When Bekily
Malaya Garnet is cut with care, the brilliance is spectacular .
There is also a color-shift through purplish, orangish and pinkish tones,
resulting from traces of both Chromium and
Vanadium.
