The recently discovered deposit of Color-Change Garnet from Chavia, Kenya has brought some fantastic gems to the market.  The presence of Chromium and Vanadium in these Pyrope-Spessartine garnets is responsible for the distinct 'Alexandrite-type' change of color.  The refractive index is also high, resulting in notably strong brilliance.  The hardness of these Garnets is 7 to 7.5.

This is the largest Kenyan Color-Change Garnet we have seen.  The stone has been completely re-cut, and is nothing short of very impressive.

In natural daylight, these stones are grayish blue-green to grayish-purple.  Using daylight bulbs, however, the color shifts to attractive slightly grayish blue.  The drastic change of color to beautiful purplish-red is seen under incandescent lighting.

Photographs have been taking using 'cool daylight' bulbs, natural daylight, and standard incandescent bulbs.
