Iolite is the name for gemstones fashioned from the mineral Cordierite.

One of the unusual varieties of Iolite is called 'Bloodshot' Iolite.  Small patches of red Hematite in these stones led to this marketing name.  Usually it is opaque, and used to make interesting beads and cabochons.

We were fortunate recently to acquire some rather high quality 'Bloodshot' Iolite rough from a new discovery in southern Kenya.  We were very pleased to be able to produce some good looking faceted gems from this rough.

We cut for quality, not for yield, and as such we got only a limited number of top-grade stones our rough.  We have no more material to work with, so we are uncertain about our ability to restock these unusual gems once they are sold out.
